About the collection
This collection was inspired by our customers, who wanted longer lengths of our Sunburst scarves, to stitch into garments. We couldn't stop thinking about this request and had to figure out how to develop silk that changes colour yet feels like a cloud.
Colour changing silk appears in different regions under different names. In Marathi and Hindi, it’s called dhoop chaon - sunshine and shade. The name doesn’t describe how it’s made. It describes what you experience.
This relationship with light means the clothing doesn’t look the same every time it’s worn.
Craft Intelligence
The visible colour change is woven into the fabric itself. In our case, the effect is intensified because the silk is handwoven extremely fine and translucent - a level of transparency machines cannot achieve, simply because it is woven underground, by the skilled weavers of Phulia, West Bengal.
